King of the Ring ถือเป็นตำแหน่งที่สำคัญอีกอย่างหนึ่งของวงการมวยปล้ำ ซึ่งนักมวยปล้ำหลายคนก็ได้แจ้งเกิดกับรายการนี้ บางคนหลังจากได้ตำแหน่งก็รุ่งสุดๆ การปล้ำก็จะแบ่งนักมวยปล้ำออกเป็นสาย และก็ปล้ำหาคนชนะเป็นคนสุดท้าย ก็จะได้ตำแหน่ง King of the Ring ไป แต่ครั้งแรกของ King of the Ring ในปี 1985 ก็ไม่ได้จัดแบบ pay-per-view เพิ่งจะมาเริ่มจัดในปี 1993 ตำแหน่งผู้ชนะตั้งแต่ปี 1985 มีดังนี้

ในปี 2003 – 2005 WWE ไม่ได้มีจัด King of the Ring และยกเลิกศึกใหญ่นี้ไปโดยเปลี่ยนชื่อเป็น Bad Blood (ซึ่งเคยจัดมาแล้วในอดีต) แต่ WWE ก็จัด King of the Ring ขึ้นอีกครั้งในปี 2006 แต่จัดขึ้นในศึก Smackdown

» 2006 King of the Ring: Booker T (รอบสุดท้ายชนะ Bobby Lashley).

ในปี 2007 WWE ก็ไม่ได้มีจัด King of the Ring แต่กลับมาจัดในปี 2008 ในศึก Raw ตอนพิเศษสามชั่วโมง

» 2008 King of the Ring: William Regal (รอบสุดท้ายชนะ CM Punk).
